Uncover Your Ancestry
Let a professional historian find your buried past using modern genetics and traditional research methods.
Let a professional historian find your buried past using modern genetics and traditional research methods.
My name is Jayme. In 2020, I took a direct-to-consumer DNA test and uncovered a buried secret: I am a middle child. I had no idea that a much younger sister and brother lived no more than an hour away. Using my research skills as a trained historian, I connected with my lost family and found a renewed passion in genealogical research. Now, it’s my pleasure to help others find their family bones. Why bones? Because just like bones provide a framework for our bodies, Our Family Bones provides a framework for your family history.
I offer a variety of genealogy services, including ancestor research for lineage-based organizations, DNA analysis, interpretive historical research, document retrieval, next-of-kin for estate lawyers, and family tree creation. And for those who want professional research support, I am also available as a personal research coach.
I earned a PhD in history from the University of Memphis, and my areas of historical specialization include the 19th and 20th century American South, African American History, and oral narrative. In addition to a certificate in genealogical research from Boston University, I have completed hundreds of hours of specialized genealogical workshops and seminars. I am CITI certified (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) and adhere to the professional standards set forth in Genealogy Standards (2nd edition). Finally, I am a proud member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
My process always starts with you, the client. Together, we will develop a research plan and a time frame based on your needs and budget. Then, I will dig through available records and documents and create a comprehensive family tree, and/or an individualized family history informed by key historical events that impacted your family. When appropriate, direct-to-consumer DNA testing can also be utilized.
Upon completion, you will receive a professional, personalized report that can stand alone or serve as the foundation for a more in-depth family history. I can accommodate the genealogical needs of adoptees, NPEs, 2SLGBTQIA+ and non-traditional families.
My name is Jayme Millsap Stone. For the past 30 years, I've served in higher education as an American historian and university administrator. My students (of course) call me Dr. Stone, but you should call me Jayme because we will be partners in uncovering and telling your family's unique history.
I live in Arkansas with my partner Jerry and doggies Darby & Maddox. When I am not researching your family's history, I am knitting, reading, catching-up on Doctor Who, cheering on MotoGP's Pecco Bagnaia, or traveling near and far.
